The Basic Pistol Course 

The Basic Pistol Shooting course introduces you to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safely owning and using a pistol.  The course includes 4-6 hours of classroom instruction, a multiple-choice test, practical exercise, and 1-2 hours of qualification on a local shooting range. Graduates of the course will receive a National Rifle Association (NRA) Basic Pistol Course Certificate that meets Concealed Carry requirements in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Handgun Qualification License (HQL) in the State of Maryland.

What you'll learn: 

 

During the Basic Pistol Shooting Course you'll learn pistol knowledge and safe gun handling; munitions and fundamentals of pistol shooting. You will also learn how to do the following:  

  • Maintain the proper stance when firing your pistol

  • Grip your pistol

  • Sight picture

  • Maintain trigger control

  • Control recoil

  • Trigger reset

  • Breath control

  • Load and reload your pistol

  • Choose a handgun and ammunition

  • Clean and field strip your firearm

Practical application exercises will be conducted using a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver, and a Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger (S.I.R.T) Training pistol. A .22 caliber handgun will be used during live fire qualification on the pistol range. 

Who should attend: 

Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate shooters, as well as those who need a more thorough refresher training. 

Classes are held in Stafford County, VA
